Story

About me

Hi there! Welcome to Dyslexically Speaking.
My name is Kayla and I started this blog because I know what it's like to feel lost after a dyslexia diagnosis. When I was diagnosed with dyslexia going into my freshman year of high school, I thought I'd finally get the answers I needed.
Instead, I found myself facing a new reality: there's no quick fix, no magic solution that suddenly makes reading and learning easier.

Those early days were tough. I had a name for what I was experiencing, but I didn't have a roadmap for what came next. I quickly realized that if I wanted to succeed, I was going to have to figure out how to help myself. It became a journey of trial and error—testing different strategies, discovering helpful apps, and learning techniques that actually worked for my dyslexic brain.

Why This Blog Exists

After years of collecting strategies and finding what worked for me, I realized there were probably other people out there feeling just as lost as I once did. That's why I created Dyslexically Speaking—to be the resource I wish I'd had when I was starting this journey.

Here, you'll find:

Personal strategies that have genuinely helped me get through school, work, and daily life

App recommendations and tools that make reading and productivity more manageable
Interviews with professionals who understand dyslexia from different perspectives
Honest conversations about the challenges and victories that come with being dyslexic

My Mission

My goal isn't to pretend that dyslexia is easy or to offer false promises about overnight transformations. Instead, I want to share practical tactics for getting work done efficiently, strategies for reading that actually stick, and insights from experts who can offer professional guidance.

Whether you're newly diagnosed, supporting someone with dyslexia, or you've been on this journey for years, I hope you'll find something here that helps. We're all figuring this out together, one strategy at a time.
